23/05/2018   Sports Day postponed due to weather forecast

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is with regret that we have made the decision to postpone our sports day and family picnic due to the weather forecast for the next few days.

We have not made this decision lightly however as it is due to rain on Thursday evening and then thunder storms and rain are forecast for Friday.  We feel it would not be safe or practical to go ahead with this date. We hope that by giving you a little more notice, this will help you in terms of rearranging dates if you have taken time off work.

We will aim to run our Sports Morning and Picnic on the first Friday after our half term, so on the morning of Friday 8th June starting at 9:30am.

We thank you for your support and understanding in this matter and we hope you enjoy your half term break and look forward to seeing our families next term.

Yours faithfully,

Mrs Paul,

Head of School.

Both St Thomas' and Wyberton (including Little Oaks) will be closed again tomorrow (Friday 2nd March). This has not been an easy decision and to fully explain our reasons for closing I have written a letter:  School Closures- Friday 2nd March which you can read by clicking on the link or visiting the letters page.

We do recognise the impact this has on children and families and I can assure you we have not made this decision lightly. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday and wish you a safe and enjoyable few days.

Best Wishes

Mr Booth

01/03/2018   Federation Schools Both Closed- Thursday 1st March

St Thomas' and Wyberton  (including Little Oaks Nursery) will be closed on Thursday 1st March following advice from Lincolnshire County Council about the weather and dangerous road conditions. This decision has not been taken lightly and we hope that you will understand the need to make the safety of our children, their families and the staff our priority. At this moment in time the school is planning to be open on Friday 2nd March but we will review the conditions again tomorrow. We have made this decision early in order to give as much notice as possible.

Our annual Dads, Lads and Lasses event was a great success during the Great Explorers Curriculum Week. Children and their male role models came together to conquer a range of problems including constructing the longest ball run, building the most supportive tower, den-building and seeing who could launch an arrow from their hand-built bow!

See our Parental Feedback page to hear about what the teams had to say about the event.

15/12/2017   Federation Christingle Service at Boston Stump 8th December

On Friday 8th December Key Stage 2 children from across the Great Oaks Federation joined together for the very first time at St Botolph’s Church (The Stump) in Boston for a Christingle celebration. Children from Wyberton Primary and St Thomas CE Primary were transported in 8 coaches to the church where they were joined by parents, friends and the wider community to give thanks for the life of Jesus Christ and the hope he brought to the world at this time of year. The children had made their own Christingles in preparation with support from The Children’s Society taking the time to consider the special symbolism of each part. During the service which was led by Rev Jane Robertson the congregation sang a number of traditional carols, heard readings and prayers from children from both schools and the combined Great Oaks choir performed. In a moving moment of reflection the 360 children each lit their Christingles and joined together in prayer. It was an amazing and uplifting event that we hope will now become a permanent Great Oaks tradition for many years to come. Our thanks go to the parent volunteers, our church family at St Botolph’s, the staff of Great Oaks and the children for making this such a wonderful experience.

09/10/2017   Black History Month

Today we launched our special curriculum week: Black History Week.

Mrs Roberts launched the week with a special assembly all about shape people. The story taught us that we may be different however together we can help each other and support each other. The shape people began to value differences and enjoyed each other's company.

This week we will be celebrating differences around the world and focusing on the values of tolerance, respect and democracy.
